EPA Green Power Partnership
What do PepsiCo, 3M, Intel, New York University, Starbucks, Staples, Burt’s Bees, The City of Houston, TX and Whole Foods Market have in common? They’ve all joined the Leadership Club of the EPA Green Power Partnership.
The Green Power Partnership, administered by the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA), is aimed at encouraging organizations to
choose green power, thereby reducing the negative environmental impact
of consuming power generated by fossil fuels. A wide array of
organizations have gotten on board, from Fortune 500 companies to
colleges and universities to local and state governments. The Green
Power Partnership is open to any organization meeting the green power
purchase requirements. Alternately, organizations who green their
energy consumption through the installation and use of on-site
generation can qualify for the Partnership.
For an organization whose electricity consumption is between 1,000,001
kWh and 10,000,000 kWh annually, a purchase equivalent to 6% of the
load would qualify for the Partnership. At the same baseload, greening
60% of the energy consumed would make the organization eligible for
the Partnership’s Leadership Club.
Becoming an EPA Green Power Partner can generate positive public relations opportunities and underscore an organization’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Tradition Energy advises organizations of all sizes on the purchase of renewable energy credits (RECs) to receive EPA recognition. For more information, visit www.epa.gov/greenpower.
