Texas Electricity Professionals Association Launches Online Testing Initiative04/09/2008

HOUSTON, TX (April 8, 2008)—Texas Electricity Professionals Association (TEPA) today announced the launch of an innovative testing initiative aimed towards assessing, standardizing and elevating the level of expertise of TEPA members. A 51-question internet-based multiple choice quiz will allow aggregators, brokers and consultants (A/B/Cs) to analyze their own mastery of key market concepts.

“TEPA’s core mission is ensuring that A/B/C members maintain an acceptable level of market knowledge while transacting in the marketplace,” says Brian Markham, President of TEPA. “This self-test provides a mechanism to accurately assess that knowledge and identify areas for improvement. It will also serve as a tool for member companies to train new employees.”

The test touches on knowledge of electricity, market mechanics, power products, terminology, customer service and ethical interactions. Throughout 2008, TEPA will host educational workshops for A/B/C members and their teams to facilitate thorough comprehension of the subject matter. The workshops will also be filmed and made available on-demand on the TEPA website. Beginning in 2009, all existing members will be required to achieve a pre-determined minimum score on the quiz. New members will be required to do the same within 30 days of admission to TEPA.

The testing requirement is part of a comprehensive certification process which will be implemented next year. Beginning in 2009, certification will be required of all member companies, and is designed to recognize expertise in energy brokerage and consulting.
