Tradition Energy Parent and Amazon Tribe Chief Work To Reduce Carbon07/28/2008
Stamford, CT (July 25, 2008)—TFS Green, the emissions broking division of Tradition Energy’s parent company, was featured in a CNN report on carbon trading programs and their real-world impact.
CNN visited with Chief Almir of the western Amazonian Surui tribe. The tribe has planted 80,000 saplings in the last four years as part of the Amazon Conservation Project. The Project is one of many initiatives that are funded through the sale of carbon credits. Globally, there are caps on how much carbon businesses and countries can emit into the atmosphere. Entities which exceed that cap can purchase carbon credits to offset their overage. The credits support a variety of sustainability endeavors, including tree planting projects like Chief Almir’s.
“It’s something that’s very easy to understand, and also very visible,” comments Amit Oza, a London-based emissions broker with TFS Green, in his CNN interview. “We can see the trees growing, and that message can be easily translated to the retail market.”
In the retail market, Tradition Energy advises commercial, industrial and governmental organizations on developing energy strategies that may include green power, renewable energy certificates (RECs), and even the purchase of emissions credits like the carbon credits featured in the CNN report.
“Because we are part of a company which has an internationally renowned emissions broking division, we are uniquely qualified to advise our commercial, industrial and governmental customers on these products,” says Alan Kurzer, President of Tradition Energy. “Environmental products are one piece to consider for an organization that wants to be proactive about managing their energy supply.”
The report can be viewed online at http://edition.cnn.com/video/#/video/international/2008/07/20/whitbeck.amazon.reforestation.cnn?iref=videosearch.
TFS Energy was recently awarded 14 awards, more than any other company in the 8-year history of Environmental Finance magazine’s industry survey.
