Demand-side Management

Demand-side management (DSM) is the implementation of policies and procedures which reduce electricity consumption and peak demand. DSM is achieved through a combination of using high-efficiency equipment and of efficiently using electricity through good operating practices.

• Arrange an on-site facility assessment to identify potential energy-saving measures including operational and maintenance improvements, and process improvements.
• Recommend energy-efficient equipment investments to reduce electricity consumption and demand.
• Secure a performance contracting agreement. Performance contracting is a long-term strategy to reduce consumption and cost. In performance contracting, there are no out-of-pocket costs. The cost of renovating, upgrading or replacing systems with energy-efficient equipment is defrayed over a period of years by the cost savings gained as a result of reduced consumption. Once the cost of the improvements has been recouped, the facility sees significant ongoing energy savings.
